"Candied sweet potatoes"
Daigakuimo (candied sweet potatoes) are said to have originated from a popular snack eaten in the student district around Kanda in Tokyo during the Taisho and Showa periods. (There are apparently several theories.) The sweet potatoes used as ingredients were grown in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, and transported downstream on the Sumida River. It is said that dishes using sweet potatoes spread from the Asakusa area.
