TO.U.BU Front counter area "TO.U.BU"
As part of the lobby's renovation, we commissioned calligrapher Rieko Kawabe to create artwork for the front counter area.
The design is based on something called "Jindai Moji" (ancient Japanese characters).
Among these ancient divine characters, there are characters that are used in sacred seals and amulets throughout Japan, also known as dragon-body characters, and the characters themselves are considered to be energy bodies.
It is written as "to, u, bu" in those dragon-shaped characters.
Rieko Kawabe's Profile
artist, calligrapher
Graduated from Showa Women's University, Department of Japanese Literature. Began calligraphy at the age of 3 and studied various traditional Japanese performing arts from a young age.
Based on the concept that "the essence of Japanese beauty lies in its wholeness," the Japan Miyabi Club was established in 1995 as a membership-based club offering programs to refine sensibilities through Japanese culture.
Since 2008, she has been creating the "KOTOTAMA" series using ancient Japanese characters, known as Jindai Moji, which predate the introduction of Chinese characters to Japan. Her collectors include the French and Russian Embassies, as well as luxury brands such as Che'Nelle. Through her work, she is engaged in creative activities that convey Japanese spiritual culture to the modern world.
Her activities to convey the beauty of Japan are diverse, including obtaining the rank of Shinto priest at Kokugakuin University.
