Shrine visit for newborns
The first shrine visit (Hatsumiyamairi) is generally performed around 30 days after birth. It's best to choose a date considering the baby's and mother's health, as well as the weather.
We will provide bedding for your baby.
First meal ceremony
It is generally performed between 100 and 110 days after birth. Also known as "Hashi-hajime" (first use of chopsticks) or "Hagame" (hardening of teeth), it is a celebration with the wish that "the child will never lack food throughout their life." Close relatives are invited to share a celebratory meal, and the "chopstick role" involves feeding the baby.

There are customs such as having the baby, who has just started to walk, carry a large rice cake or a bundle of rice on their back. It's a heartwarming moment enjoyed by the whole family. Inviting grandparents will surely make it a joyous celebration.

Breaking the fast and purification
After the cremated remains have been collected, a banquet is held to offer food and drink to those who helped with the funeral arrangements; this is called "Shojin-otoshi." The monks and those who helped with the arrangements are seated in the place of honor, while the bereaved family and chief mourner sit in the lower seats, expressing their gratitude for everyone's efforts.
Memorial service on the seventh day after death
The memorial service is traditionally held on the seventh day after the date of death, but nowadays it is sometimes completed when the cremated remains are collected after the funeral. After that, memorial services are traditionally held every seven days: the second seventh day (14 days later), the third seventh day (21 days later), the fourth seventh day (28 days later), the fifth seventh day (35 days later), and the sixth seventh day (42 days later). However, the services on the second and third seventh days are often held only with family members.
49th day memorial service
The memorial service held on the 49th day after death is also called "Shichishichiki" or "Manchuin." On this day, the deceased is believed to undergo final judgment and depart for the afterlife, hence the memorial service is held. Many people also choose to inter the cremated remains that have been kept at home on this day and hold an interment ceremony.
Memorial service after 49 days
After the 49th-day memorial service, a 100th-day memorial service is held, and thereafter, annual memorial services are held. The first anniversary of death is held one year later on the anniversary of the death (the month and day of death), but from the third anniversary onwards, the year of death is included (third anniversary: two years, seventh anniversary: six years, thirteenth anniversary: twelve years).
Anniversary of death and memorial service
The date on which a person dies is called the "annual death anniversary." Memorial services are held annually after the 100th-day memorial service, with the "first anniversary" being held on the annual death anniversary of the following year, and the "third anniversary" being held two years later. The first anniversary is a relatively grand event, with relatives, friends, and acquaintances invited, but from the third anniversary onwards, the service is held very privately. Subsequent services are the "seventh, thirteenth, seventeenth, twenty-third, twenty-seventh, thirty-third, fiftieth, and hundredth anniversary," but generally, the thirty-third anniversary is considered the "final memorial service."
Eye-opening memorial service
When a new grave is built, a Buddhist priest and close relatives are invited to perform an "eye-opening ceremony" in front of the grave. This ceremony may also be held during the equinox, Obon festival, or annual memorial services. However, since "building a grave is like building a house" and is considered a celebratory event, it is common to hold a separate "eye-opening celebration" banquet in addition to the memorial service.
